READING
Our whole group sound for this week is /u/ as in umbrella. Our writing job will be related to various topics that begin with the letter Uu.
Please take advantage of using the Renaissance at home program. You will be able to see the results of the AR tests and Math Facts in a Flash that your child takes. Students can earn "Blount Bucks" for achieving certain math levels. In first grade students will earn five dollars to spend at the Math store each time they have passed five levels. Ex. When they have passed five levels they will get five dollars to spend. When they pass ten levels they will get five more dollars to spend. Please practice hard!! Your child will be able to take practice tests and tests at home but it won’t count towards their achievement level. Only test taken at school will be counted towards earning Blount Bucks. The Math store will only be open the last Friday of the month. Let me know if you have any questions!
MATH
We will begin Chapter 18 on Monday. Homework for math will be lessons 18 in the Practice Math Workbook. Look for the review sheet to come home the night before we test.
LANGUAGE - (DOL)
We have covered rules 1-20 and continuing to practice these rules in sentences each week. I will introduce Rule 22 Monday. Friday’s DOL will be taken for a daily grade.

March 1-5 - Read Across America Celebrating Dr. Suess's Birthday.
Each year schools all across America celebrate Dr. Suess’ birthday with Read Across America. We will join in the fun with the following activities each day.
-Monday, March 1: first grade classes will decorate outside our hall in a theme of a book the First Grade teachers choose.
-Tuesday, March 2: DEAR Drop Everything And Read-for 30 minutes. No AR tests, no library-just READING!
Wednesday, March 3: Guest Reader
Thursday, March 4: Character Parade at 1:30. ALL students (and teachers) will dress up as a book character. Don’t go out and buy a costume-be creative and use what you have at home. Students will need a sign (necklace type) with the book and character name. Parents are invited to come and watch. This is a really fun time for the children and a treat for the parents. (More details about the parade to come later)
Friday, March 5: Wear a silly hat for Silly Hat Day in honor of one of Dr. Suess’ most recognizable characters, The Cat in the Hat.
Have a great week!
