author of - Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes

He was just delightful! I told him he had a fan of First Graders in my classroom! He was most appreciative.  The best news is…he has a new book coming out this summer!! I.can’t.wait.  Good children’s literature is one of my weaknesses!

Guess who else I got to hear this weekend? While most of you were in your closets Friday night, I went to hear one of my all time favorite music artists…..

OK with the recap of my weekend! I hope all of you had a great weekend! Let’s take a look at what your firsties will be learning this week!

Math – We will continue our Chapter on Money! We still have so much to learn, songs to sing, and of course purchases to make at our class store!!

Reading – Our focus sound will be /x/ as in fox and /or/ as in horn.  This week’s word wall words are: for, or, away, fun, six.

Language – We will begin talking about rule 27 – Antonyms are words with opposite meanings.

We will have our Easter Egg Hunt on Tuesday, April 19th.  I still need volunteers to help hide the eggs.  If you can help please let me know.  We will hunt our eggs in the morning before lunch.  Don’t forget to send in your eggs numbered 1-18.  I am looking forward to a hoppy time!

We have had several guest speakers visit us the past few weeks.

~The “Talking Tree” came and taught us a few finger plays and explained the importance of recycling and why it is important to put litter in the correct place.

~Safe Routes to School Program came and talked about the importance of safety know matter how you get to school.  It can be a bike (always wear your helmet), walking (always take a buddy & be aware of your surroundings), school bus (we discussed school bus safety, on & off the bus), or in your car (always buckle up).  It was a fabulous program that really captured the attention of the children as well as taught them some safety tips!

~We also received our certificates from our First Grade Community Project for the Tri State Bird Research & Rescue Project.  Our first graders collected a total of $148.00 and were able to help a total of 4 birds! Thank you first graders and parents!!
