Love, Friendship, First Grade!

We have been extremely busy this month!! Groundhogs, 100th day activities, {that lasted past the 100th day!:)} Now we are way excited about our fun Valentine Party! And we still have lots to learn .. President’s Day, Dental Health, and American Education Week.  Friday we were all glittered up putting the finishing touches on our Valentine Bags! It was sooo much fun! Our Valentine Party will be tomorrow from 1:30 – 2:15, we would “love” for you to join us if you can.

This week our focus letter is /f/ as in frog.  The word wall words are bring, green, one, fly, sing, two, get, three.  We will have a word wall assessment this Thursday.

We will cover DOL rules 20 and 21 this week. Rule 20 – Add s to most nouns to mean more than one.  Rule 21 – Add es to some nouns to mean more than one.

Math – We will begin Chapter 14 – Addition and Subtraction Facts to sums of 12.

         Read Across America Week

            February 28 – March 4

We will be celebrating Read Across America Week during  February 28-March 4th.  We will have a school wide character book parade on Thursday, March 3.  Begin thinking of a character from your child's favorite book to dress up as.  We will parade around the school, parents are invited to attend.   I will be sending details home about this exciting week. This is always a fun and exciting time for everyone at Blount!

Project Groundhog -  We continue to record the daily high and low temperature for this North American project.  For the first week of recording we had an average temperature of 48 degrees with three cloudy days and two rainy days.  We noticed a pattern of warming temperatures but our prediction of spring arriving soon was diminished by last Thursday and Friday's cold weather.

Please remember to send in your RSVP for Muffins for Moms.  The RSVP is located on the front page of the Blount newsletter for February.  Muffins for Moms is Wednesday, February 23 and Thursday, February 24. Please walk your sweet firstie to our classroom after you enjoy your muffin so I can get a quick photo of both of you together!

Have a “lovely” week!! Hugs!
