October 26-30, 3009

I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed time with family and friends. It’s hard to believe that it’s the last week of October!

The following message was given to us to pass along to parents:

As you know, this year, our school will be partnering with several local and global organizations. Our children will not only have the opportunity to impact their world, but to be impacted, as they are educated through their community service. Some of the community projects will be simply collecting some everyday items that we have. Instead of donating your items elsewhere, plan on bringing them to the school. The first collection will be Monday, October 26th. Items can be dropped off in morning or afternoon carpool. Here is a list of items that we are looking for:

blankets, towels, coats, pillows, toys, puzzles, school supplies, children’s books, and school uniforms your kids have outgrown. All the items can be gently used and are not expected to be new items.

Questions? Please contact Lisa Hoffman, Community Spirit Coordinator, community_spirit@blountpta.org, or at 782-3409.

READING

Our whole group sound for this week is /c/ as in cat. We will also have a Halloween related activity once a week in October. This may be in for form of a writing job or something to display in the class.

ACCELERATED READER

Thanks for helping prepare your child for AR tests. I think that at this point children can take 2-4 tests a week. Also, continue to indicate when your child is ready to test on the AR reading Log or put a sticky note on the book they are ready to test on.

MATH

We are still working on Chapter 9; Calendar Math , Graphs, Sorting, Tally Tables. Homework for this chapter will be lessons in the Practice Workbook beginning with 9. We will probably test on this chapter Thursday. Look for the review sheet to come home the day before the test.

LANGUAGE -(DOL)

We have covered rules 1-10. These rules can be found in your child's take home notebook. We will continue to practice Rules 1-10 in the sentences each week. Sentences for Friday come directly from the sentences practiced Monday-Thursday. (There may be some Thursday’s that I will give a worksheet that is related to the rule that was introduced and practiced for the week, therefore there won’t be any sentences for that day.)

**WE WILL HAVE A WORD WALL CHECK WEDNESDAY ON THE LAST THREE WEEKS OF WORD WALL WORDS.
