Mystery Box

Last week we had a Mystery Box that contained some secret items.  The children had the best time and asked the most inquisitive questions trying to guess what was inside the box.  Take a look at our fun!

Shamrock Shakes!

After we cleaned up the mess the wee friend left and counted all our gold! cha-ching!! We had another yummy surprise! Kate’s mom, Mrs. McDevitt brought us some ice cream and sprinkles for a fun treat! Then…you will never believe what I found in the refrigerator… Leprechaun Juice??!! Needless to say we added it to our yummy ice cream and made ourselves some oh.so.good.   SHAMROCK SHAKES!!! Thanks Mrs. McDevitt!!

A weee little visitor!

I don’t know if you heard but we had a weee little visitor come to our classroom last Friday.  We never could catch him, however he dropped lots of gold! We counted, graphed, tallied and even divided all the gold we found.  Everyone wanted a “fair share”.  Then we had to clean up the horrible mess he left.  That’s where we did a little team work and everyone helped!

Welcome Spring!

Although today is the official first day of spring, the weather outside this past week certainly made it feel like spring has been here a while. I have missed my sweet little first grade friends and can’t wait to hear all about everyone’s exciting spring break adventures!

Reading – This week our focus sound will be /p/ as in pig and /ay/ as in hay. Our word wall words are":  picking, stop, then, four.

Language – Rule 24 Add ed to some words to show that something has already happened.

Math – We will begin Chapter 24 this week learning about telling time.

Please remember that children in grades 3-6 will be taking standardized tests for the next two weeks.  Please help by making sure your child is at school on time.  Our schedule will be a little off on the days that children are testing.

Report Cards come home Thursday, March 24th.  Please sign the highlighted copy and keep the other copy for your records.

If you know anyone who has a child entering Kindergarten next year please tell them about the school wide Kindergarten Open House this Thursday, March 24 from 5:30-7:00 pm.  Each school in our system will hold this open house for students and their parents that are entering kindergarten next year. I hope lots of new Blount Aviators will get a chance to see their new school.

Don’t forget that your child needs to read and take an AR test on at least three books this week.

I love teaching your fabulous first graders!! Let me know if you  have any questions!

Hugs!!

A few reminders~

The week after Spring Break grades 3-6 will begin ARMT & SAT testing.  During testing the primary grades are assigned an upper grade to encourage them by providing notes and treats during the week.  Our class has been assigned to Mrs. Mulchay’s 4th grade class.  If you would like to help by purchasing a bag or two of candy let me know and I can tell you some of the specifics of what we still need for our buddies. This is a fun time for both classes as they get to know one another and get ready for their spring tests!  We will also be dressing up this week to get our upper grades excited about doing their best when they take the tests.

Monday - “We are going to SHINE BRIGHT on testing!” Wear your sunglasses with your uniform.

Tuesday - “Lucky Leap Day!”  Wear your green shirts with your jeans as we wish good luck to our testers.
